If thousands of Florida bears, or bobcats, or any other species of wildlife were being killed each year, there would be a public outcry like no other. So why are our most beloved companion animals, those animals that citizens spend billions of dollars on each year, allowed to be killed every day in our city/county run shelters without so much as a peep?
Formed in January 2012 by a small group of volunteers in the Tallahassee area, Florida Pets Alive (FPA) is a non-profit organization* dedicated to making Leon County, Florida a No-Kill community.

The No Kill Equation focuses on alternatives to killing, bringing the focus back where it should be: life saving. Volunteers, a compassionate director, and public relations/community involvement are the key forces that tie everything together
It's because our city leaders are behind the times. They have been convinced by years of being told the old ways are the only way.
Does this mean we think no animal should be euthanized? Of course not. We believe animals suffering from untreatable sickness or injury should be humanely euthanized with compassion and dignity. We also believe that those animals that have been abused and neglected to the point of being a danger to people and other animals, and have been properly assessed as such, need to be humanely euthanized.
